Grief Left Uncomforted
By Sandy LaCagnina
That's right. My child died from drug
use. You don't need to feel so very
uncomfortable. I am not uncomfortable.
I am heartbroken but I don't feel shame
in saying that my son was a drug addict.
Excuse me? Did you say that he is
better off where he is now? He is dead!
I am certain were you in my shoes you
are not likely to think dead is better
than alive no matter the struggles or
cause of death.
You say it is time to get over it. You
watch your child slowly killing himself
knowing there is nothing you can do to
help them then maybe we can have this
conversation over again.
I'm sorry. I would never want you to go
through the hell of having a child who
dies from substance abuse. I wouldn't
wish that on my worst enemy.
It's just that it gets so hard to see that
same look come on the face of each
person who asks me how I am doing or
do I have a child. Continued on next page
